On 3rd June 2015 the European Commission approved the new INTERREG V-A Spain-Portugal MAC (Madeira-Azores-Canaries) 2014-2020 Cooperation Programme with a budget of 130 million euros (85% funded by the European Regional Development Fund, FEDER).
On 17th October 2017 the European Community approved an increase in the Programme’s funding, with the budget rising to nearly 149 million euros (126.5 million euros by FEDER).
The Cooperation Space is composed of:
The outlying regions of Madeira, the Azores and the Canary Islands.
Neighbouring third party countries to have accepted the invitation to participate in the Programme are Cape Verde, Senegal and Mauritania
In the 2014-2020 programme they will be intervening in five large areas or thematic objectives:
