The main objective of INIDA is the research and development of the agricultural sector in Cape Verde. In this regard, they are responsible for the management of natural resources, the conservation of land, water and biodiversity.

INIDAs carry out agricultural and livestock work (including plant and animal production and plant protection); agricultural economy, rural sociology and agricultural and forestry technology transfer.

INIDAs are currently involved in strengthening adaptation and resilience capabilities in the face of climate change in the water resources sector in Cape Verde - Phase I and II, in Santiago, San Antonio and San Vicente from 2012 to 2016. This is funded by the Canadian International Development Agency through PNUD-UN.

They are also at the forefront of terrestrial biodiversity conservation projects and soil fertility studies, as well as the assessment of heavy plateaus on agricultural land.
